Each member of the Empro ensemble – guitar, bass, keys, drums and percussion, together with the Express Horns and topped off with fantastic vocalists – has a special love for this music, the music they grew up with. Founded almost 10 years ago, Empro Express has evolved into one of the most acclaimed party machines in the New York area. Individually, its members have performed and recorded with top artists, including the Gap Band, Brass Construction, BT Express, the Coasters, the Chords, and the Chantels. Ms. Sandra Taylor, female lead singer, is a first place winner at the storied Amateur Night at the Apollo Theatre. Over the years, Empro Express has rocked some of the city's most prestigious venues past and present, including The Cutting Room, Jimmy’s Uptown, Le Bar Bat, China Club, Lone Star Roadhouse, Sweetwaters, Good Vibrations, and Wetlands, as well as numerous corporate and private parties.
Empro Express was privileged to play, together with Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, at Harlem Salutes the Grammys 2003 and were the featured band at the Harlem Dance Party series at Jimmy's Uptown, once the best club in Harlem... both events sponsored by the Harlem Chamber of Commerce. The band performed at a number of Harlem Week 2004 events, including an outdoor music festival and the Gracie Mansion party celebrating the 30th anniversary of Harlem Week. You know they’re doing something right!
Empro Express was selected to play along the route of the NYC Marathon in the early 2000’s, and has played it every year since 2006. The band has also made numerous appearances at the annual Maplewoodstock Festival held each July in Maplewood, New Jersey, along with such stars as Steve Forbert, Marshall Crenshaw, Dumpstaphunk, and Rich Pagano & The Sugarcane Cups.
